A Quick Guide to Varna, Bulgaria for First-Time Travellers

 Are you planning a trip to Bulgaria? Have you looked for the most affordable flights to Bulgaria yet? What are the places that you plan to visit once in Bulgaria? You probably know about the usual suspects – Sofia, Sunny Beach, and Burgas. There is one Bulgarian city that is not as much talked about as the other destinations. It’s the seaside resort of Varna, a really great summer destination that you should consider visiting.

Varna has great beaches, as you would expect. It lies on the Black Sea Coast and is home to some really great tourist attractions such as churches, ruins of the Greek and Roman empires and lovely little museums.

It is easy to get to Varna. Just fly to the Varna International Airport, which is just a short drive away from the Varna city centre.  You can choose from any number of airport transportation to get to your hotel upon landing, such as taxis, car rentals and private transfer services which you will need to book in advance online on their website. There are many car rental services that you can use as well.

Varna has an excellent public transport system. Buses cover every nook and corner of the city and a bus ride in Varna does not cost much either. There are minibuses and trains available that take you to other Bulgarian cities, should you want to.

So what can you look forward to doing in Varna? Well, you can visit the magnificent Kaliakra Nature Reserve, which is at an hour’s drive from Varna. You will find a plenty of wildlife here, so be sure to get your best camera with you.

You could go on an exploration of the vast Black Sea Coast. The Black Sea Coast runs for several hundred miles and is largely unspoiled. You will find plenty of opportunities for a bit of fun and frolic here. If you are an adventurous sort, you will love going on a snorkelling trip.

Or you could just relax on the beaches of Varna. It has some of the loveliest beaches you will find anywhere, such as at the Sea Garden Park. The Sea Garden Park is a very family friendly place with lots of great stuff for kids to do. There is a planetarium, a kid’s playground, a zoo and more.

You will like the beach resorts of Golden Sands and Chayka as well. These resorts have some of the greatest beaches you will find anywhere. There are a plenty of bars and open restaurants here as well.

One of the things you can do is to go on a walking tour of Varna. There is so much to see in the city. For example, you may want to explore the churches, temples and ancient Greek and Roman ruins situated at the heart of the city.

There are so many museums in Varna, such as the Naval Museum, the Museum of National Renaissance, the Science and the Museum of Art and History and the Museum of Nature.

You will enjoy visiting the Varna Archaeological Museum‎. You will like viewing the number of beautiful historic artefacts here such as gold coins, silver ornaments and more. It’s a place that you really have to visit, at least once.

The Aquarium and the Black Sea Museum in Varna are very popular with kids. So if you have children with you, this is the place to go to. You will also like visiting the historic Roman Spa ruins which are located close to another popular tourist attraction, the St. Athanasius Cathedral.

Varna has a hot and happening nightlife as well. There is always a party or two at the Sea Garden. The Zone, Ultra and Taifun are popular nightclubs that you will enjoy visiting.
